Studio Subryan

Background + Approach

I approach interiors through a narrative lens, styling spaces and objects through use, restraint, and an editorial eye.

Merie Subryan's affinity for interiors began in childhood, trailing her father, an engineer, through New York City construction sites — an early education in how buildings come together. Summers in Europe deepened that foundation, where encounters with spaces like the Sistine Chapel sharpened her understanding of scale, atmosphere, and the weight a room can carry.

Spatial thinking underpins her practice. Before introducing objects or materials, she considers how a room is held and inhabited — its light, its proportions, the way it is used. Composition and material come later, giving the space its final register.

Educated in Interior Design at Parsons, The New School, and holding dual degrees in Psychology and Sociology, she brings both aesthetic and behavioral insight to her work. Her home and projects have been featured in Dwell, with expertise highlighted in The Strategist and other publications. She also writes Section Plane, an independent project exploring the emotional and material logic of interiors and everyday living.
